Embracing the full sun.

This week I learned to really think about the lighting before I take a shot. When I went to the train tracks with Pinky, it was 3pm and the sun was out in full force. I didn't think I could get anything good with the full sun, an ornery and sweaty kid, and only a little while before the train museum closed. But Pinky gave some good advice about thinking where the sun is, and just making slight adjustments to how Kainoa was posed. Also to think about different layers and textures in the scene. Usually when I take pictures of him, I would just click a ton of shots and think to myself that something will come out. But this time, I clicked, checked settings, adjusted him, moved around, let him play, tried to relax, then click again. It made such a difference! I got a lot of shots I really loved, and I was really surprised. I know it sounds simple but I really believe it helped me get some of my best work out of that day.

I shared what I learned on click it up a notch! Check it out!

I am totally with you.

I am finishing a class right now that has helped me think more about the light and how I position my subjects. I have been taking less photos due to thinking more about the shot. I feel less stressed and more confident. It is still a challenge, but it is getting better all the time.

BTW, I love the shot.

It's it so much fun to go out shooting with someone else! So glad to hear about you shooting around 3pm. You are so brave and that is challenge I look forward to taking on. I may have to hit you up for some extra tips! You know I just adore all the photos you took of Kainoa!
