Okinawan Festival

Yesterday we went to check out the Okinawan Festival downtown.  I was really excited to go to this, especially since I'm part Uchinanchu and I'd really like to know more about the culture.  And technically I have family living there, haha.  The festival really made me miss Japan, but I'm really grateful to be back living in Hawaii where there is such a huge Asian influence.  Just this week I ate at a Filipino restaurant, watched a little NHK world, went to the Korean market, and then the Okinawan festival.  Growing up in Hawaii I took all this kind of stuff for granted, until I was living in Abilene, and anything Asian meant going to the Chinese buffet restaurant.  LOL. Now I want to experience it more and have my children appreciate what they are also.

RMD (Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko) performance.  So awesome!

Some RMD performers from Kauai.  My friend Daphne's boys were in it also.  Loved it!

Andadog!  Andagi corn dog.  Looks a little weird.  haha!

Hey, yeah, we are like, totally local now! I wish you could come & visit. I LOVE the drummers too, so much energy! Oh, but that corn dog totally looks like a penis. For real, real. I don't think I could have eaten it.
