Birthday Friends

For Isla's birthday balloon pictures I shot both her and her friend Alayna, whose birthday is just a few days after. This week I learned not to sweat the small stuff. When I downloaded the pictures, to be honest i was kinda bummed. I didn't get the picture I had envisioned, with Isla sitting nicely on the chair, backlit with the balloons. Isla was just way to rambunctious and didn't want to sit still for me at all. She kept running away or turning her head or moved real fast. Most of the pictures that I did like either had cropped limbs, wrong focus points or something else wrong. Plus she wouldn't keep her hair pin on so her hair looked messy. But then I realized, it doesn't matter! I still got some great pictures that I will cherish forever. Plus, my baby girl is 2 and i'm so grateful for her in my life.
I shared what I learned on Click it up a Notch! Check it out and share what you learned!

It can be so frustrating when you have a particular shot in mind and can't seem to get it to work out right. I think you're right, cherishing the little moments is what its all about. What a great capture. Thanks for sharing.

Oh Janell!! This is just beautiful! I love the backlighting, balloons in the background, and the ever so sweet moment you captured :O) I love all the other photos you posted as well! Especially the one of her walking away with the balloons. I love it! I can't wait to try this with Emma's 2nd birthday :O) I'm glad you were able to enjoy the priceless photos you did capture!!

you are capturing who she truly is. in years to come, she will be happy that you did. these photos tell a better story than if she was sitting perfectly posed in a chair.

This is photo is so sweet, but I am totally with you. I get so bummed when I had envisioned so much more and then I upload them and blah.

I am the worst at cutting off limbs when I totally thought everything was in the frame.

Thanks for being real with us.

I love the pictures just the way they turned out. They capture Isla's true personality. I know it is so stressful and frustrating to try to take photo of a non-stop moving target but I have a feeling you will look back and laugh and cherish these photos for years to come- even though, they werent what you planned

Ah yes, I have that feeling every time I see my pictures on the computer for the first time! But this picture is awesome. So poignant. And the messy hair really adds to it. Maybe I just have hair jealous because I can't wait for my daughter's hair to be that long.

Janell, these pics are perfect. I love the lighting & you captured a 'real' moment. Like you said, you didn't get the shot you want, but instead you got tons you never expected. Happy Birthday, Isla!

Janell, this is such a sweet shot! And you got some great balloon shots too! You did a great job especially since I'm sure you had a ton of other stuff on your plate for a big birthday party!! ;)
