Bento Wednesday

 

Ever since we lived in Japan, I knew I wanted to make bentos for the kids when they were in school. I was obsessed with all the bento gear they had there, from the cute boxes to the little utensils and everything in between.  I collected a ton of boxes over the years there, excited to start making them.  I did a few before Kainoa got all picky, and he loved it then.  Well of course now, he’s super picky, and most the the boxes I have he says are either baby-ish or girly!  WAHHH!  Well I was determined to make one this week, so today I woke up a little earlier, got some of his favorites, and went to town.  I had this idea to make a car, but that didn’t work out, so when I showed Kainoa, he added a few things and it ended up to be a “train”.  Sorta.

Rice base, hot dog omelette for the wheels, nori for the window, and then Kainoa’s suggestion of a carrot for the whistle, and another hot dog on top.  Next time I have to figure out how to make the omelette not as thick.  Well it wasn’t what I had envisioned, but since he helped to create it, he was more excited to bring it to school.
