Weekend getaway

So this  past weekend we decided to have a spur of the moment weekend getaway.  I  had had a bad week, with my van falling apart, unexpected bills, waiting to get Tricare approval for all of Isla’s tests, and the upcoming Kindergarten assessments.  So we decided to get a hotel room for a couple days downtown to recoup.  But I’ve come to realize that there’s no such thing as a relaxing weekend when you have kids!  First having to pack pretty much a full suitcase just for 2 days, with diapers, wipes, swimsuits, extra clothes, etc.  Then we hit some major traffic getting into town.  By the time we got to the  hotel, there wasn’t any parking, Jamie was circling the lot for at least 45min and was thisclose to turning around and going back home!  Then we realized we forgot Isla’s stroller!  Kids were whiny, hungry, and it just seemed like the weekend was gonna be a bust before it even started!  But finally we got settled in, had dinner with some friends, and then Jamie went out with some guys from work.  The next night I got to go out and do a little girls night out with my friend, so that was nice.  We also did some shopping, relaxed at the pool, ate out.  It turned out to be a nice time.

On Sunday, we went to the 40th annual Ukulele Festival, which is held by the studio that Kainoa takes his lessons from.  It was basically a big outdoor concert with Ukulele masters from all over Hawaii, Japan, Australia, and other places, and also performances from kids from the studio.  There were also the typical food booths, jumping castles, and craft booths around.  It was awesome!  There were tons of people there, and they brought chairs and blankets, just hung out and listened to the music.  Hopefully Kainoa will be able to participate in a few years.
